The Nerdette Podcast is hosted by Greta Johnsen and Tricia Bobeda. It’s a safe space for nerding out about all the things you’re watching, reading, listening to and encountering IRL.
Tricia is a producer at WBEZ (Chicago Public Media). She likes finding and telling stories. She makes a mean guacamole and her socks rarely match. Her lightsaber got confiscated at 7th grade camp.
Greta is the morning host at WCQS public radio in Asheville, NC. She nerds out about left-handedness, the weirdness of weather, and gerundives. Verbs as nouns, guys. Bananas.
We’re looking for nerds of all stripes (especially, but not exclusively, of the lady variety) to join in the fun.
Call and leave us a message to play on the podcast: 312-600-5638 All questions, comments, rants and musings welcome.
What’s that you say? You’re in dire need of Nerdette footie pajamas, flask necklaces and tote bags? We’ve got you covered.
Rebecca Poulson is a writer who likes to make stuff. Professionally, she makes cocktails and theater. Unprofessionally, she makes homemade ice cream and computer programs that can play rock, paper, scissors, lizard, Spock.
Liz Pedersen likes to Knit All Things, especially presents for her friends. She also is very good at making Greta watch shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Battlestar Galactica. Her cat, Maybe, is stubby.
Meghan Murphy-Gill is a writer who is probably in the midst of another hair-brained self-improvement scheme. She once choreographed a dance routine to the Smiths’ “Cemetry Gates” without a stitch of irony and is available for consultation on the use of hyphens and commas.
Lauren Chooljian is a producer/reporter at WBEZ in Chicago. She nerds out about U.S. Presidents, perfectly constructed sentences and cocktail bars. She produces interviews about everything from dinosaurs to indie rock and and contributes playlists/mixtapes for Nerdette.
Sarah Rand is a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education researcher at the University of Chicago. She loves putting scientists in front of microphones so she can learn about their work. She nerds out about everything related to summer camp and once faced a polar bear in the wild. They are not so cuddly up close.
Joe Uchill is a freelance writer working out of Boston. He’s written for a variety of outlets - most impressively Uncut, most frequently the Milwaukee Shepherd-Express and most eclectically the Encyclopedia of Women and American Popular Culture. He knows all the words to “Rainbow Connection” and his expired ham radio license had the call sign KA1ZYM.
Simran Khosla is a multimedia journalist and graduate student at NYU’s Studio 20 program. She likes drawing rockstars on the sidewalk in chalk, making epic doodle creations, and bright-colored toenail polish. She can quote every line in the original Star Wars trilogy.
Claire Delahorne was Nerdette’s intern. Or something. And she has a lot of feelings about Zooey Deschanel, Game of Thrones and other things. She went to circus camp for years and never learned how to juggle.
